Is a mac pro power supply supposed to get hot

The RAM is running as fast as it can, 800MHz. I haven't worked on a 3,1, but am curious enough to have watched videos about them and you'll probably want to budget a day to get in to it.ДЄs for bottlenecks, if you're using the latest CPUs (which you are already, just lower clocked than some), there's not much you can do there. I wonder if the CPU heatsinks have ever been removed and had the dust blown out of them.

The RAM will be warm, but shouldn't be scorching. Those use a lot more power and will run hotter, important to consider if it's in a small room. Upgrading from those, you'd be looking at x5472 or 5482's. Is there any benefit to using OpenCore Legacy Patcher over DOSDude1's and vise versa? I can do OpenCore setup on a Windows PC, but never messed around with an old Mac running OpenCore!Д«ased on the speed your RAM is running, I think your friend has E5462 CPUs. We did 1 upgrade already, and that's a USB 3.0 card. A good friend of mine got a 3,1 Mac Pro (A1186) and we are already considering pushing this to the limits (on a budget).
